该书以贵州弘福寺为研究对象，调查阶段采用了文化人类学的主位/客位观察、当面/电话访谈、查找地方文献资料等方法；写作阶段运用了文化人类学的功能分析、历时/共时比较等理论与方法。全书共约15万字，分为9个部分。第一部分是前言，最后一部分是结论，其余八个部分分别对弘福寺的历史际遇、自然/人文环境、寺院建筑、寺院分工与管理、寺院经济、文化生态、僧尼群体生活、宗教活动等多方面进行了细致的描写，对某些问题进行了较为深入的分析。该书认为弘福寺的历史命运受到它所处时代的政治、经济、军事等社会大环境的影响；弘福寺可以看作是该寺的历史残存与现代社会现实摹本的有机组合；弘福寺现状就是对其所处地理、生态、人文等因素作出的一种回应；圣俗两界的对立与统一有其深层原因，此二界之间的互动关系使二者均作出调适变通，从而引起了圣俗二界的变迁；弘福寺的存在与其他寺庙一样，既有其负面功能，又有其正面功能，现阶段具体表现为正功能大于负功能；作为汉传佛教寺庙的一个缩影，弘福寺的某些方面蕴涵着丰富而深刻的含义。

　　Abstract

　　The book takes Guizhou Hongfu Temple as a study object. The following methods are employed during investigation: emic/etic observation, face to face/ telephone interview, consulting the local writing materials, etc.In writing, such theories and methods as functional analysis and symbolic analysis of anthropology, diachronic/synchronic comparison, etc.are used in the article. There ara about 120,000 characters in the article which is divided into nine parts. The first is introduction and the last one is conclusion. The other eight parts separately describe in detail the historicalturns of Hongfu Temple, natural/human　environment, the temple architecture,function division and management,the temple economic,culture ecology, the life of Buddhists and the religious activities. It gives a deeper analysis to some aspects. The book holds that the historical fate of Hongfu Temple was influenced by  the  social  environment  of  politics, economy and military of its time. The Hongfu Temple can be regarded  as   the  organic  combination  of its historical remains and the copy of modern social reality .The present status can be regarded as a reflection of such factors as geography, ecology and human; the unity and opposition of holy world nd secular world has its deeper reasons. The interaction of the two worlds makes the two adjust to each other and causes the two to change. The existence of Hongfu Temple just like other temples has both positive functions and negative functions. At present,it has more positive functions than negative ones.

　　As a miniature of Buddhism temples, some aspects of Hongfu Temple have plentiful and profound meanings.
