第三，美日对中国坚持保卫钓鱼岛主权所思深切，迫使中国谋划对策。比如埃尔德里奇认为，钓鱼岛主权之争体现了日本在东亚优势地位，中国如事实上占据钓鱼岛，就会顺势夺取琉球，或者让琉球中立化。〔38〕麦克考马克等认为，日本政府在钓鱼岛主权争议上立场强硬，和害怕中国对琉球提出主权要求有关。美国操纵钓鱼岛问题，是为激化地区形势，给美军继续留驻琉球群岛提供依据，幷在中日间保留“楔子”。〔39〕中国有必要深入研究琉球地位问题，化解美日压力，避免长期被动。
第四，这一研究也有其边界。中国可从俄和西方关系中有所镜鉴。中国仍然要坚持在“东稳”框架下，加强对冲绳民众反基地运动的研究，充分尊重当地民意，寻求和当地运动及东亚各国合作契机，合力构建东亚共同体，而不是滑入对抗。因此，也要对西方学者提出的危机管控思路取其精华。
总之，中外各界对琉球地位问题、钓鱼岛主权争端的复杂性要有充分估计，早做谋划，要从当今世界国际秩序转变角度，从改造美国主导的东亚国际体系高度出发，认识冲绳民众反基地运动的价值。对中国而言，则要从自身对琉球历史关系所奠定的道义地位出发，与美日主导的西方国际法体系和联盟体系展开博弈，使其难以再拨弄中国和周边国家矛盾，或干扰中国统一大业。
